August 27, 2010 - GCCDS Mapping featured on NPR. A GCCDS map showing recovery and unmet needs along the Gulf Coast was featured in an August 23rd story on Biloxi’s recovery from Hurricane Katrina on NPR’s “All Things Considered." The GCCDS' floodproof construction research team launches a blog documenting our research and process. View it here. July 1 & 2, 2010 – GCCDS is hosting Moss Point @ Play, an exhibit about our parks! View the invitation here. The Gulf Coast Community Design Studio is accepting applications for a Planner. The planner will work in Biloxi, Mississippi along with the GCCDS staff of fifteen planners, landscape architects, architects and interns. The planner will work on a range of community planning projects at regional, city and neighborhood scales. Qualifications for the position are a professional degree in urban planning, urban design or architecture and five years of planning experience. Duties include leading planning and design projects at a range of scales, organizing and participating in community planning meetings, using GIS mapping and planning tools, and supervising the work of design interns. Applications should be completed on Mississippi State University’s Human Resources website under the Architecture department. April 16, 2010 - GCCDS is hosting Made in Moss Point, an exhibit featurng crafts by artists of Moss Point. View the invitation as a pdf here. The December education issue of Architecture lists Mississippi State University School of Architecture as one of three national schools leading in community design in part because of the work of the GCCDS. The Gulf Coast Community Design Studio (GCCDS) is a professional service and outreach program of Mississippi State University’s College of Architecture, Art + Design. The GCCDS was established in Biloxi, Mississippi in response to Hurricane Katrina to provide architectural design services, landscape and planning assistance, educational opportunities and research to organizations and communities along the Mississippi Gulf Coast. The GCCDS works through close, pragmatic partnerships with local organizations and communities. In Biloxi, the GCCDS shares work space with a key local partner, the Hope Community Development Agency – a relationship that brings the office into direct and continuous contact with the community’s needs and resources. The GCCDS works with non-profit organizations, local governments, universities, developers and other partners in all three of Mississippi’s coastal counties, putting professional expertise to work in order to shape vibrant and resilient Gulf Coast communities. |
